10 Karaköy Morgans Hotel

Büyük Balıklı Han has survived from the 19th century to the present day, preserving details of its original structure, within the scope of its transformation into a boutique hotel.

Located on Kemeraltı Avenue in Karaköy, with views of the Historic Peninsula and Galata Tower, Büyük Balıklı Han was built by Architect Aristidi Razi in 1875 and served as a trade center during that time.

The historical inn has been finalized with a design plan covering a total plot area of 950 m², with 7 stories and 71 rooms, including a basement, ground floor, mezzanine, 3 standard floors, and a roof. The final design offers unique details, ensuring a one-of-a-kind stay experience.

Though shaped by the Western architectural style of its era, the building incorporates details reminiscent of Ottoman inns in its interior design, particularly drawing attention to its neoclassical façade. The four-story, rectangular-shaped inn began its renovation in 2014. The project strengthens the connection between the building’s past and present by preserving the arched porticos on the street, transforming them into a part of its modern, minimalist interior design. Materials and colors that reference the building's history are also used to maintain its historical identity.
